In the revered Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, in the Bāla-kāṇḍa, this is the eleventh chapter. Again indeed, O lord of kings, hear my beneficial words, as that foremost of the gods, the wise one, narrated.
इक्ष्वाकूणां कुले जातो भविष्यति सुधार्मिकः । नाम्ना दशरथो राजा श्रीमान् सत्यप्रतिश्रवः ॥१-११-२॥
He will be born in the lineage of the Ikṣvākus and will be highly righteous. By name he will be King Daśaratha, glorious and true to his pledge.
अङ्गराजेन सख्यं च तस्य राज्ञो भविष्यति । कन्या चास्य महाभागा शान्ता नाम भविष्यति ॥१-११-३॥
He will have friendship with the king of Aṅga. That king will have a highly fortunate daughter of his, named Śāntā.
पुत्रस्त्वङ्गस्य राज्ञस्तु रोमपाद इति श्रुतः । तं स राजा दशरथो गमिष्यति महायशाः ॥१-११-४॥
But the son of the king of Aṅga was known as Romapāda. That greatly renowned King Daśaratha will go to him.
अनपत्योऽस्मि धर्मात्मञ्छान्ताभर्ता मम क्रतुम् । आहरेत त्वयाज्ञप्तः संतानार्थं कुलस्य च ॥१-११-५॥
“I am childless, O righteous one; the husband of Śāntā should undertake a sacrifice for me, when commissioned by you, for the sake of offspring and for the continuation of the lineage.”
