She, Vaidehī, when thus addressed by Anasūyā—Anasūyā who was free from envy—having duly honored her, began gently to speak words.
नैतदाश्चर्य्यमार्याया यन्मां त्वमनुभाषसे । विदितं तु ममाप्येतद्यथा नार्य्या: पतिर्गुरु: ।। २.११८.२ ।।
This is no wonder in a noble lady, that you speak to me thus; for this too is known to me, namely that for a woman her husband is her guru.
यद्यप्येष भवेद्भर्ता ममार्ये वृत्तवर्जित: । अद्वैधमुपचर्तव्यस्तथाप्येष मया भवेत् ।। २.११८.३ ।।
Even if this husband of mine, O noble lady, were devoid of good conduct, he would nevertheless have to be served by me without deviation. How much more so when he is such a husband.
किं पुनर्यो गुण: श्लाघ्य: सानुक्रोशो जितेन्द्रिय: । स्थिरानुरागो धर्मात्मा मातृवत्पितृवत्प्रिय: ।। २.११८.४ ।।
How much more, then, when his qualities are praiseworthy: he is compassionate, has conquered his senses, is steadfast in affection, righteous in spirit, and dear like a mother and like a father.
यां वृत्तिं वर्त्तते राम: कौसल्यायां महाबल: । तामेव नृपनारीणामन्यासामपि वर्त्तते ।। २.११८.५ ।।
