English · Meaning

In the splendid Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, in the Bālakāṇḍa, the eighteenth canto. When that sacrifice—the horse sacrifice of the great-souled one—had been completed, the immortals, having received their shares, returned by the way they had come. The transmitted form प्रतिगृह्यमरा appears to combine प्रतिगृह्य, “having received,” with अमराः, “the immortals”; this is the contextual reading, while the source token itself is preserved as transmitted.
