Respect should not depend on rank. Humiliation prompted revenge; an unchecked accusation turned that revenge into real harm. Dantila’s apology mattered, but Gorambha’s lies were not justified. Consider: why did the king question a rumour about himself more carefully than one about someone else? What evidence should he have sought before punishing Dantila?
