Chanakya Collection

Arthashastra, Chanakya Niti and Chanakya Sutras as three distinct research and preparation slots.

History
Kautilya, Chanakya and Vishnugupta are linked in traditional attribution. This does not prove that all extant compilations were personally authored by one historical person.
Authenticity of our versions
Compare editions and recensions; do not label the three works undisputed authorial originals. Vriddha Chanakya and Rajaniti variants remain distinct bibliographic evidence.
Source selection
One primary original-language edition per work. Edition, completeness, competing recensions and exact-file terms must be compared before selection. Located references are candidates; no primary edition is certified yet.

3 whole-work / guide slots · sequence planned · source comparison pending

Source work → collection → book series → authored books. A slot is metadata, not a finished manuscript, a paid edition or a release.

Statecraft · 1 works / topics
  1. Arthashastra

Fifteen books on governance, economy and statecraft. Selected episodes require mature context.

Traditionally attributed to Kautilya; extant text and dating have scholarly debate. Compare Kangle's critical text with historical Sanskrit print witnesses.

Primary source: selection pending. Book series: whole-work preparation slot. Books: no new storybook created by this plan.

Edition comparison notes · selection pending

GRETIL identifies Kangle's second critical edition (University of Bombay, 1969), entered by Tokunaga and proofread by the Kyoto seminar in 1993. Heidelberg also provides Jolly/Schmidt's 1923 Sanskrit text with a separate 1924 notes/commentary volume. These are different edited witnesses.

Still to validate: Compare all fifteen books, manuscript basis and readings in the historical print and critical text. Keep modern commentary outside the ancient root text and record exact-file permissions separately.

Research references only. These links do not add an active source edition or approve a book.

Ethics and maxims · 1 works / topics
  1. Chanakya Niti

Sanskrit aphorism collection; chapter and verse totals vary by recension.

Transmitted in multiple compilations under Chanakya's name; attribution is traditional.

Primary source: selection pending. Book series: whole-work preparation slot. Books: no new storybook created by this plan.

Edition comparison notes · selection pending

A numbered Sanskrit recension is available at Sanskrit Documents. Its index also links Hindi Niti Darpan witnesses; those titles do not establish a Sanskrit-only original or a selected recension. No translation/commentary file has been acquired.

    • Sanskrit Documents: numbered Niti text

Numbered opening and index checked. Volunteer file is for personal study/research; commercial copying needs permission. External research reference only.

Still to validate: Locate and inspect a named Sanskrit print, establish its chapter/verse order, then compare the numbered and other recensions. Do not replace the original order with an alphabetical rearrangement.

Administrative maxims · 1 works / topics
  1. Chanakya Sutras

Condensed maxims; the often-cited 555 count requires verification in the selected witness.

Compilation and relationship to Arthashastra must be evidenced; an appended set is not proof of identical authorship.

Primary source: selection pending. Book series: whole-work preparation slot. Books: no new storybook created by this plan.

Edition comparison notes · selection pending

The Sanskrit Documents witness has eight chapters, each with its own numbering, and credits Sunder Hattangadi for encoding/proofreading. A universal 555-sutra total and personal authorship by the historical Chanakya have not been established by this evidence.

Still to validate: Inspect a named printed root-text witness, compare chapter endings and calculate its actual sutra total. Keep commentary and Niti verses separate; no source has been selected.
